R56 Motor

Postby goozzard » Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:58 pm

I've seen this picture before and was wondering what this motor is from. It looks similar to the R56 but the intake, engine cover, and turbo heat shield are different. Anyone have any idea? Show car maybe? The reason I'm asking is because of the plastic around the oil filler cap. I've noticed that we have open mounting points in the same location and I was curious as to what they are for.

What is that?
It's a terrible thing.
Oh my God! What is THAT!?
I don't know! Something else! Also terrible.

The picture above is the R56 Cooper, the normally aspirated, non turbo, not an S, 2007 Just-A-Cooper engine. ;)

These pictures are from NAM and the 2007 US Press Release, I believe the same photo you have above.

OK, another question...anyone else noticed an abnormal amount of heat (warm air) down by your feet? Since the weather has been awesome I've been driving with the windows down, which is great but my feet are HOT!

Yep, it's an issue a few people on NAM have noted too. Something about where the coolant travels right by that area for the heater, even when not being used. Sounds like a manufacturing tolerance on how close the hoses are to the body of the car.
