The Mini "Cooper" turns 50 this year!
In 1961 the 997cc, 55 bhp Mini Cooper blew the doors off the 850cc, 34 bhp Mini.
Practical Classics Magazine has a nice cover story on John Cooper's baby in the January 2011 issue, available at Barnes and Noble.
