IPOD

Postby YELLOWMINIAZ » Mon Dec 17, 2007 4:08 pm

Maybe one of you can help me...
Bob bought me an IPOD for my birthday. After 2 weeks of waiting to download music I finally got it.

Now I have the AUX in my car. I can hook it up in there and use my speakers. The question I have is when you turn off the car or the radio is there something out there that will turn off the IPOD too? Or use the radio to control the IPOD? I always forget to turn it off and my battery is being wasted.

Basically you just have to remember to pause it and eventually it will turn itself off. So leave yourself a note or something. After a little bit you will just do it.

There is no reason the I POD should pull that many amps.
Maybe time for a new battery.

Do you have the MINI cable for I POD control?

We have it and when the car turns off the I POD does as well????

I meant the battery on the IPOD, not the car battery.
I have the AUX plug in the glove box. Where do you put the cable?

Ours is in the glove box as well and the plug goes into the bottom where it sits in the docking station at home. That allows the radio to charge the IPOD. If yours plugs into the top from the head phone jack the unit will never charge. If you connect the same way we do than it is possible that the battery in the I POD is no bueno. We had that problem and sent it back they put another one in for free. Even if it is new...some times weird things happen. If it is new I would return it for a new one.

Trace,
I have mine set up like you do using just an aux jack. Some of the folks have installed a much more elaborate cable that can hook in to the head unit and take the place of a CD changer, and will allow you to access your iPod via the radio controls (and if you have it the steering wheel controls).

I always just play mine is a shuffle mode, so it doesn't matter to me about controlling the iPod functions. I don't have mine in the glove box though, I have mine on the euro shelf that I installed under the steering wheel, and I remember most of the the time to pause it and that keeps from running down the battery on the iPod. One can also add another 12V accessory plug to the euroshelf and keep a 12V adapter in there to charge the iPod.

Lots of choices on this little gem.

Maybe your not understanding what I am saying or I just dont know how to explain it. I think Barney answered my questions. I dont care about the battery dying. I want to be able to control the IPOD using my radio. I have the one that plugs from the top and I know that doesnt charge the IPOD. The battery on the IPOD hasnt died and I haven't had any problems with it. I just cant seem to remember to pause it or turn it off when I get out of my car so it constantly plays. I was just hoping there was an easier way.

You have to get the more expensive iPod stereo adapter for the Mini to control the iPod. I almost got it for my 2007 but then they tried to tack on install charges so I went back to the turning it off myself method.

Hmmm..... one of these days, I'll have to update my signature file. The yellow isn't quite right anymore.

You would need something like this Trace:

http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-cooper/ ... rface.html

As stated above, not teribly cheap. Most mini dealers sell them as well.

Here's an aftermarket version for a little less $:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MINI-Coo ... enameZWDVW

With either of these not only would the Ipod power down with the car but you could change songs with the Mini's stereo controls so you would never have to touch the Ipod again except to take it out to add songs to it.

Also in order to put this in you would lose your current AUX input which means you wouldn't be able to use anything but Ipods. (and if you do get one of these I want your AUX input for mine so I can plug my Sirius in direct.)
