DMC - Adopt-A-Highway - Spring Cleanup - Sun Apr 27

Postby danjmcs » Thu Dec 13, 2007 10:26 pm

** 4/25/08 - Updated RSVP List - please click on the link below for complete info!
** 4/15/08 - Updated thread with meeting locations and schedule - CLICK HERE
** 3/24/08 - ADOT has received and CONFIRMED our date for April 27th! Please RSVP if you are available to work that day!
** 3/3/08 - We have filed our date for Sunday April 27th with ADOT.
Once that is confirmed with them, we'll start an RSVP list for those that wish to assist in the cleanup on that day.

If you've been reading to the bottom of my DRP Reminders the last month or so, you've hopefully read about the work that Suzanne has been putting in to get us hooked up with ADOT and their Adopt-A-Highway program. Seeing as how we enjoy Arizonas Highways so much, Motoring around the State in our Minis, it seemed like a good program for us to be a part of.

Well, we officially have our sign location, mile marker 289 on US87, approximately 36 Miles north of Payson.

Click here to see the actual location of the sign on a map.

We are still putting together the plan for the dates on when we'll go up for the actual clean-up, but ADOT has been going through some changes with the people in charge of this program, so we've ran into some delays in nailing down all of the details.

They will drop off/provide us with all of the tools, bags, equipment for the days we choose, and we'll go up twice a year on a Saturday or Sunday with a group of hopefully 10-20 people. This location only requires clean-up twice a year, so we'll plan a date coming up here soon in the spring, and then one later in the fall.

We have a couple of members with property in that general area, so we will probably try to plan some type of event in the area, Run, Lunch, Cleanup, etc.

As we get more details and dates nailed down, I'll update this thread, but I wanted to get the location and general information posted.

Thanks again to Suzanne for putting this together and getting us registered and organized with ADOT!

If you are interested in going up for this type of thing, please reply in this thread or drop me an email, dan@coopahs.com.

If you happen to "Motor" on by the sign, it would be cool to see a picture of the sign with your Mini. There might be a special prize involved for the first person to post such a picture :)

Bribes.... Bribes.... hmmmmmmm.... how does a great drive thru beautiful country sound??.... followed by a few minutes of community service that gives us all "warm and fuzzys" for doing a good thing??..... followed by a picnic or gathering for food and fun at a friend's house??

Is that enough of a bribe???.....maybe we'll find some "door prizes" or something too....

I don't think we need to do anything right now.... it's too cold/snowy and our section of road was not needing to be cleaned yet.... it may need it by Spring time though... let's try to save a weekend in April for this...

Almost made it to the sign - stopped at mile post 275 to play in the snow with the dogs.
There is about 6-12" of snow piled on the sides of the road right now.
Very pretty area.
Good choice.

It's cold but soooo much fun!!! besides, if it's too cold you can just put on more layers... If it's too hot you're just out of luck.
