Well we made it to Pagosa Springs. Hit rain in Flag (lots) and sporadic the rest of the way. It's raining now...

We both got pulled over 40 miles from 4 corners - only got a warning. Watch it - they are out in full force - DPS said lots of motorcyclists on their way to Sturgis.

Then a young buck darted out in front of us near Durango. He froze in the center of the road and lucky for us, he turned back to the other side. Otherwise, I would have hit him!

Be careful everyone on your way up tomorrow!

Thanks for the heads-up and reminder! We're setting cruise control about 9 mph over the limit and leaving it there... I suspect we'll arrive earlier then the extreme speeders who'll either get pulled over or have to stop for gas at 17mpg while we're getting 32mpg. No rush or hurry for us. We're looking forward to the drive(s) and with pre-programeed GPS and maps in hand, so not worried about being left behind this time.

Can't wait to see Colorado! Never been there before.

Pretty much what we've done the last two years on the trip to MITM, as well as MTTS last weekend with no issues. See everyone in the morning.

Here we are...

Definitely one of the best group drives we've ever had! Dan lead the way the entire time and did an excellent job getting us to our destinations. Unfortunately, because he was out front, he was the first to pass through a nasty speed trap where the speed dropped from 65 to 50, but I certainly didn't notice it. For sure, if I was the lead car, I would've been the one who got the ticket. I don't know where that speed limit dropped, but the cop sure knew where to wait. Our thanks to Dan for leading the way the entire time.

Yeah, I had the cruise set on 70 (pretty much 8 over the whole trip), thought it was a 60-65 zone, came around the corner and there was one of Colorados finest. 70 in a 50. 600+ miles to that point, and get a ticket the last 20 miles because I was stupid and didn't see the speed change, go figure.

Of course the truck that was in front of me going the same speed, that also pulled over with me, he didnt instruct to pull up further to the shoulder. Coincidence the truck had Colorado plates? First thing he says to me, "Guess it's a bad day to be the leader of the pack huh?"

I've had four tickets in my life, and I've never had a cop that was as big of an ass as this guy. Ususally they at least know they didn't make your day and have a decent attitude about it. But then this type of speed trap is to me the example of how catching speeders is pure revenue generation, and nothing to do with safety. The trucks and mini vans going down the hill, regularly crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic, aren't a concern I guess.

Oh well, still a good drive up.

Wow, what a great Day Run out to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. We broke off from the main group before Estes so we could take a stop there for a bite to eat, and then headed up the mountain. A little bit of spitting rain here and there, but other than that, a really nice day.

We took the run up to Independence Pass with Mark, Teresa, Ken and Sue and about 15 other MINIs. Stopped in Leadville for a photo op at some giant rocks and headed up the pass to 12,100 ft. The lack of a guard rail added to the thrill.

At the summit, the pack turned around and back tracked, but we headed on to Aspen for lunch with some folks from New Mexico and Denver. The road coming down into Aspen is a great twisty ride with some spots narrower than one lane.

The area is crawling with cyclists, as there is a major race scheduled for Saturday. Lance Armstrong is in town, too!

The Western Dragon is on our schedule for Saturday...... Woo Hoo!!

What a great time! Congrats to Ken & Sue - the big winners of Saturday night's dinner, taking home a beautiful MINI coo-koo clock! John didn't get any pity prizes from us, luckily he won a MINI water bottle...

Other winners:
Warren and his homemade, custom "ShellBell" MINI earrings!
Jodean - waterbottle
Mark - Key chain (LOL)
I believe Scott won a keychain as well... anyone else?

We had a great day long drive yesterday from Copper back home to Phoenix. We caravaned from Copper to our turnoff in Utah with some members of the West Coast MINI group - fun people! Now back to reality... :puke

Pics to come!
