DMC - ProAutoSports Track Day - Dec 13th

ProAutoSports is having a Bondurant Formula race at Firebird EAST on December 13th. In conjunction with their race, we have been offered the chance for a ProAutoSports School (one-on-one in-car tutoring after classroom instruction), with several chances to practice your new high-speed driving skills.

What you get is Drivers School, 2010 membership in ProAutoSports and 4-20 min. on track sessions for only $100.

It will be a full day, starting around 8 AM, and ending around 5 PM, or earlier if people are worn out.

Carloyn Kujala offers these tips for those who have never been on the track:

From previous experience, drivers should clean out their cars at home as much as possible before coming to the track, but bring folding chairs, maybe a canopy, sunscreen, hat, helmet (motorcycle will do, but car racing types preferred), torque wrench, and tire pressure gauge.

The Love's gas station across the freeway has air available. Tires should be set to at least 36 front, 38 rear cold. If tires are warm from driving up, they should be 5 pounds higher.

Brake pads should be checked before the event - at least 50% pad left, because you'll use the fronts a lot. And if members have non-run flat tires they want to use, that's a much better option. Track driving is really hard on tires, especially front ones on the MINI.

After the event, participants may want to change their air filters, unless they are fairly new - the paddock at Firebird East is dusty, so air filters get dirty fast.

There's no real dress code, but long sleeves and long pants are preferred, and all cotton is the best. Nylon is to be avoided, as is fleece while in the car. Closed-toe shoes (no sandals) that have a relatively thin, narrow sole (no hiking boots) will give the best "feel" and ease of shifting.

Women (men too) should leave dangly jewelry at home - no bangle bracelets, no long necklaces, no big rings, no big hoop or dangly earrings. And drivers with long hair may want to tie it up in a ponytail to keep it out of the eyes under the helmet.

Dang, great chance for some track time at an awesome price/value too!

Unfortunately my health isn't quite where I want it yet to do a day of that, but I plan on being out there to watch/help out.
