DMC - British Euro Auto Tour (BEAT Tour) Apr 17-18, 2010

Postby danjmcs » Mon Dec 21, 2009 7:16 am

** REGISTRATION IS FULL AND CLOSED **

FYI, below is the initial information on this years 13th Annual, British Euro Auto Tour!

A number of us from the DMC have attended this event over the years and I hope many of you will choose to again this year! It's a great time on the road with all makes, models and years of British and European cars.

The BEAT is a really fun overnight event that starts in Phoenix and loops around the state, spending Saturday night in the Flagstaff area, and then returning to the valley on Sunday. Below is a link to the 2009 thread from last years event that has a few pictures and review of the event from our members, and the latest update from the organizers from the event is also below.

2009 BEAT Tour Link

I'll update this thread as we receive more information on the event as the date draws nearer. Be aware though that the event is capped at 150 cars, so register as soon as you decide you want to go as it WILL sell out!

** Update 12/20/2009 **
Subject: BEAT Registration 2010

Greetings. First of all Janice & I would like to wish everyone a Merry
Christmas, joyful Hanukkah and a great New Year.

With a new web site, laid out by Dave Riddle, who has spent countless hours putting pictures, videos and the latest online registration together, we are very thankful for His efforts. Since this is the first time registration can be filled out online, there may be some bugs to hamper a smooth process so any suggestions or comments, just let me know.

Janice & I have been involved in contacting all the vendors that we do business with to be sure the 2010 event will be smooth, efficient and as much fun as we can plan. With State budgets being what they are and revenues down in all the cities we visit, each of the cities we visit have increased their fees for their services. Prescott has gone from using City personnel to outside vendors for their City activities. So with these increases our registration fee for 2010 has increased to $125.00. I have been working with State personnel at Dead Horse Park in Cottonwood for using their facilities and am waiting to see how the State budget will affect this park.

As always, these things take a bit of planning and negotiating to get everything in order. A quality event for you is what we strive for. Stay tuned for developments.

As I have done in years past, when invited, I have attended car club meetings to answer questions and invite new drivers to our tour. If you would like me to attend your meeting, just let me know and we will see how schedules come together. Previous years I've attended meetings held by the Alfa, Porsche, Triumph, Rolls Royce & Jaguar Clubs to name a few. Also, if you could pass this message to your Club's news editor or web site manager for their inclusion on their events calendar we would appreciate it. An easy way to remember when the tour takes off, it's always the weekend after taxes are due. For 2010, it's April 17th & 18th. Remember, registration is limited to the first 150 vehicles or March 22, 2010 which ever comes first. We need that deadline for planning, printing and general organization.

Any questions, let us know. Oh - by the way - I changed email addresses, it's correct on the web site but please make any necessary changes.

Thanks for your participation,
Mike & Janice Goodwin & KoolKat

FYI, registrations are moving along to the 150 car max, as has been the case in prior years. They are just over 40 registrations, same pace as last year.

Online Registration is still being tested, but you can fill out the form at the link below to register:

Latest update from the BEAT Organizers...

"Mike Goodwin" <koolkataz@cox.net>
Subject: BEAT 2010 Update

Greetings,

We've received a couple of e-mails lately asking "How are things going for the 2010 Tour" ? So, an update will answer a number of questions. First of all to those that have registered and mailed in their checks - a super thanks. We still have a number of drivers that have registered and as of last mail delivery, have not received your checks. Remember, registration is only complete when your check has been received. We've sent out a number of e-mails asking for additional information, shirt size, ladies shirt color choice, etc. Just as a note - the ladies shirt color choices are - white, light grey, light blue, lime & pink. Again this year the magnetic signs can have the lower line of the door sign personalized with up to 17 characters/spaces. If you're still thinking about ordering one, (13" x 19" @ $26) or still trying to think of what to put on yours, please get us that information. Remember, these are the magnetic signs that go on the side of your car - not the license plate which everyone will get.

Janice is working very hard with the "Whiskey Row" merchants to acquire their approval to park on that street in Prescott. We are being informed that our group is the only car group that gets the opportunity to block off that street. But, it takes a bunch of work to get the merchants approval. Also, on March 11th. we are driving to Prescott to meet with the Chamber of Commerce, Parks Department, Police / Streets Department to finalize our visit. Then, later in the month, Mark Osier (who will again this year handle the photography in Dead Horse State Park of each car & driver) and I will travel to the Park to check out where we as a group will park / work with the Park personnel and just get things organized. We will soon start the t-shirt design - each year to come up with a quality design is always a task.

Currently we have 81 registrations and the deadline for your registration is March 22, 2010, so whichever comes first - 150 paid registrations or March 22nd. We need to have a registration deadline so we can order all of the t-shirts, license plates, magnetic signs, rally books and breakfast in Flagstaff. Also, please make your reservations at Little America and be sure and ask for the special B.E.A.T. rate - you can call them at 1-800-352-4386. Our block of rooms are going fast so do not delay getting your room.

Any questions or anything we might have missed, just let us know !
Take Care,

Mike & Janice Goodwin & KoolKat

Awesome weekend on the BEAT trip again this year.

It's always a good time being held up by a Ferrari a Lamborghini and a Porsche 935 going up the road to Jerome, hehe.

They've always done these nice magnetic door signs for the BEAT, but this year they let you put some custom lettering at the bottom.

Image

One of the awards they gave out this year was for "Most Desirable", which went to a nicely restored Austin America.

The DMC also donated to the raffle prizes this year, two copies of the Road Lovers Guide to Arizona that has our club featured in the Club Drives section and a couple gas cards. The guides were definitely a hit as prizes, lots of good comments on them.

If you skipped it or missed it this year, just remember its always the weekend AFTER tax day, so you can get it on the calendar for next year!

Thanks to the DMC'ers that made it out!

One of the professional photographers that was on the BEAT trip this past weekend has posted all the pics taken on Saturday.
You can order a 36" x 24" print for $38, pretty good deal.

Greetings, burning the midnight oil, Dave Riddle has uploaded all the 900+ photos that I edited, resized and organized into folders for the revised web site. If you participated in the 2010 tour, then take a look at the videos and pictures of your car. If you could not make this year's tour, you were missed but there's always next year. Believe it or not, Pete N. & returning from England, our good buddy Regg have already given their notice to drive the 2011 tour. While watching the videos I keep reaching for my seatbelt as you ride along through the mountains and desert landscape of Arizona. We even have the latest news article from Cody and a link to Cathy Franklin & Annah Moore's web site. Remember Cathy has the lighting photos, just like the ones given away Sunday morning and Annah has the photos that can be made into poster size prints for you. You will be contacted when the 2011 registration is available but remember the tour dates are always the weekend after the tax deadline. Should you change your email address, let me know so I can update your contact information. Questions, suggestions, let us know as your opinion is important for future changes. Take care and get your classic out and enjoy it,

Enjoy the web site,

Mike & Janice Goodwin & KoolKat
