MM - A MINI Weekend in Bisbee March 22 and 23

Postby AKA IAN » Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:45 am

It's time to start planning and making your reservations for the next MADMEN adventure. This time we'll be travelling the back roads as we discover some of the secret and not-so-secret parts of Southern Arizona. Museums, wineries and national monuments in or near Willcox. Art galleries, funky shops and some steep streets in Bisbee. We're also trying to get reservations for Art Car World in Douglas to view their collection of painted and decorated cars.

We aren't selecting a maximize-your-budget hotel choice for this trip because Bisbee is not a Super 8 kind of place. A list of lodgings is below and unfortunately the Shady Dell trailers are completely booked but there are several other inns and hotels available. Since this adventure is only one night away from home we can even splurge a little!

We'll be meeting for breakfast at 8 Saturday morning and hitting the road after coffee and eggs. As with all MADMEN adventures we welcome any suggestions and input as to what you want to see and do.

RSVP, make a room reservation and get your suitcase and cooler out. We're hitting the road in March!

Check out the menu for Cafe Roka in Bisbee

http://caferoka.com/

When you RSVP for the weekend also please let us know if you will be dining with us at Cafe Roka. We are making a group reservation for dinner at 5:30 pm. The food is fabulous and though the atmosphere is more upscale than the diners we usually eat in we can still be our MADMEN selves.
We can maximise the budget at Saturday breakfast and dine like a gourmet at dinner.
(Creme Brulee on the dessert menu!)

The next MADMEN weekend is fast approaching. A large number of you have already RSVP'd and are making plans to join us as we cruise the back roads of Southern Arizona, play tourist in the funky town of Bisbee and tour the Decorated Car Museum in Douglas.

We will be meeting Saturday March 22 at Omar's TTT truck stop at 5451 E. Benson Highway between 8:30 and 9 am for breakfast, with a scheduled departure time of 10 am. The route and stops are currently being researched so if you have any suggestions please let us know. We will be arriving in Bisbee in the early afternoon with plenty of time to sightsee and check into lodgings before dinner. Reservations have been made at Café Roka. We will need to have your confirmation for dinner by the time we leave Saturday morning so I can call the restaurant with our exact number. If Café Roka isn't your style there are several other dinner places in town.

Sunday morning we will be departing Bisbee shortly after 10 to make our 11 am reservation at the Decorated Car Museum in Douglas. The proprietor has requested that we make a $2 per person donation or buy some art car merchandise (books/DVDs/postcards) so bring some $$.

If you can't make it for the entire weekend you are still welcome to join us for any part of either day. Just let us know so we can include you in the information and keep an eye out for you.

Another fantastic weekend with the MADMEN. Breakfast at Omar's TTT then 15 MINIs it the road for Bisbee via Sierra Vista, where we picked up another MINI! Fun time for visiting and pictures at the Lavender Pit Mine overlook, then into Bisbee for strolling (hiking) the hilly streets, shopping, lunching, drinking and more visiting. Then dinner at Café Roka, the premier restaurant in Southern Arizona. A very fine dining experience enhanced by the company of our car family members. Sunday it was off to Douglas for a tour of the Art Car Museum, where we got the history of the building, which is still undergoing renovation, and the story behind each car. The owner/curator is a fascinating man and we plan to return in a few years to see his completed vision. Then it was back to Bisbee for lunch for some of the group and up to Tombstone for lunch for the rest of us. Thank you to all who joined us and helped to make this another successful adventure. See you next time!
